The conversion rates for moving Asiana miles to Korean Air SKYPASS are now final.
- Miles earned from flying: 1 : 1
- Miles earned from cards and other partners: 1 : 0.82
So 100,000 Asiana miles earned on a credit card become 82,000 SKYPASS miles.
This is based on Korean Air’s September 15 announcement and the official integration page.
The integration starts on December 17, so nothing happens to your balance today.
Rates by how the miles were earned
| How earned | Rate | 100,000 miles becomes |
|---|---|---|
| Flying | 1 → 1 | 100,000 |
| Cards and partners | 1 → 0.82 | 82,000 |
Partner miles lose 18% in number.
That does not automatically mean your trips are worth 18% less, though.
It depends on how many miles your route needs and whether there is a seat on your date.
The mix matters too. With 40,000 flight miles and 60,000 partner miles:
40,000 + 60,000 × 0.82 = 89,200 miles
This is an example to explain the rates. Your own result will show on the conversion screen.
Convert now or keep them?
| Option | What to check |
|---|---|
| Keep using Asiana miles | Whether the trip you want works under Asiana’s award chart |
| Convert to SKYPASS | Whether your converted balance covers SKYPASS award prices |
After the integration, Asiana miles will be run separately for 10 years, and you can convert whenever you like during that time.
According to the Fair Trade Commission release (in Korean), though, conversion covers your whole balance at once.
You cannot convert only the flight miles and keep the partner miles.
One more thing: the 10-year period and the expiry of your miles are separate.
Existing expiry dates still apply, so miles about to expire do not get ten more years.
Check your expiry schedule before anything else.
How to compare
The best way is to start with the route and dates you actually want.
Then compare what it costs in Asiana miles and in SKYPASS miles.
Converting just because the total looks bigger could leave you short for a trip your old balance would have covered.
On the other hand, you may need to combine with an existing SKYPASS balance to reach an award.
| Step | Check |
|---|---|
| 1 | How your Asiana miles were earned, and when they expire |
| 2 | Award seats on your dates and route |
| 3 | Miles needed each way, plus taxes and surcharges |
| 4 | Whether your converted balance can actually book it |
| 5 | The all-at-once and cancellation terms on the conversion screen |
Whether a conversion can be reversed depends on the terms on that screen, so I will not guess.
Linking accounts and converting miles may be separate steps, so read what you are agreeing to before tapping.
Award seats and elite status
Korean Air also announced more award availability and status matching.
That still does not guarantee a business seat on your date.
If your holiday dates are fixed, seat availability may matter more than the rate.
In the end it comes down to two questions: how many miles you end up with, and what they can book right now.
