JAL is revising JGC Premier and renaming it JMB Premier. JGC membership will no longer be an additional qualification requirement; the flight thresholds remain. Some benefits will change separately. See JAL’s official notice.

Timing and benefits
| Change | Applicable period |
|---|---|
| Removal of JGC prerequisite | Flights from January 1, 2027 |
| Premier benefit changes | FY2028 status earned from 2027 flights |
| FY2027 status earned from 2026 flights | Existing rules and benefits retained |
Premier will lose its own mileage-expiry waiver and Service Selection, while a 10,000-mile bonus is introduced. Key flight benefits, including oneworld Emerald, continue. Bonus delivery details are to follow.
Do not read this as an immediate removal of your current benefits. Separate your plans for this year from those for next year. Star-grade and JAL-card expiry provisions still apply; check the expiration dates in your own account rather than assuming every member’s miles will expire together.
Qualification thresholds
| Route | Annual requirement |
|---|---|
| Points | 80,000 FLY ON Points, including 40,000 on JAL Group flights |
| Flights | 80 flights, including 40 JAL Group flights, plus 25,000 FLY ON Points |
Removing the membership prerequisite does not make qualification automatic. You still need one of these two routes. Qualifying for JMB Premier should not be confused with joining JGC.
FLY ON Points are distinct from redeemable miles. JAL’s program guide describes an annual flight-based calculation with eligible fares and carriers. Your mileage balance, shopping miles or hotel miles cannot simply be substituted into the thresholds above.
As a points-route example, 80,000 total points with only 39,000 from JAL Group flights misses the required JAL share. That example assesses the points route only; it does not determine whether the member qualifies through the flight-count route.
Planning from Korea
If you intend to credit next year’s travel to JAL, check both total points and the JAL Group portion in your account. Travelers using partner airlines frequently should pay particular attention to the latter.
We recommend comparing the cost of your actual travel plans with the benefits you expect to use, rather than adding flights solely to chase a tier. Before paying, check the flight number, operating carrier, fare eligibility and cancellation terms. A partner-operated itinerary should be checked against the program’s published earning rules.
