Eiger Selfness Hotel

Hello, this post is a 2-night review of the Eiger Selfness Hotel in Grindelwald, Switzerland — about a 5–10 minute walk from Grindelwald station.

I arrived from Strasbourg, France, stopping at Bern before heading straight to Grindelwald. The walk from the station to the hotel takes about 10 minutes, but the uphill stretch makes it a bit of a haul with luggage.

Overall, the hotel was clean, the facilities were solid, and the sauna in particular was excellent.

I booked through Agoda at around ₩200,000 (~USD 150) per night, and stayed in a king bed double room as a solo traveler — so plenty of space.

From the Station to the Hotel

Walking from Grindelwald station to Eiger Selfness Hotel

The walk from Grindelwald station is straightforward, but it’s mostly uphill — dragging a suitcase up is a mild workout.
That said, it’s only about 10 minutes, and the Alpine scenery along the way makes it easy to forgive.

The hotel has a classic Swiss chalet-style wooden facade that fits right into the Grindelwald landscape.

Lobby & Check-in

Check-in was smooth and quick. The lobby has a warm, cozy mountain resort atmosphere.
The staff were friendly throughout — good first impression.

Room

I was in a king bed double room as a solo traveler, so the space was generous.
The room was tidy and well-maintained, and the bedding was comfortable.

The view from the window looks out over the Grindelwald village and the surrounding mountains.
On a clear day, it’s genuinely breathtaking.

The bathroom was clean and well-kept.

Happy Hour Lounge

During happy hour, the hotel lounge offers unlimited beer, coffee, and a spread of cakes and desserts.
The variety of cakes was impressive, and I made good use of it both evenings.
For Switzerland, this is genuinely great value.

Fitness & Sauna

The fitness facilities are well-equipped, but the real highlight was the sauna.
It was the perfect way to wind down after a day of exploring, and I used it every evening.

Barry’s Restaurant – Breakfast

Breakfast is served at Barry’s Restaurant on the ground floor. I had it twice over the two mornings.

It’s a buffet-style spread with the usual European breakfast lineup — breads, cheeses, cold cuts, and egg dishes.
A staff member makes coffee to order — not just Americano, but also café latte, cappuccino, and more, which was a nice touch.
The dairy in particular was excellent. Swiss milk and cheese really do hit differently, and I left well-fed both mornings.

Nearby Coop Supermarket

There’s a Coop supermarket conveniently close to the hotel.
Given how expensive Switzerland can be, picking up drinks and snacks at the supermarket makes a real difference.
Easy access to a grocery store is a genuine plus in a tourist-heavy mountain village like Grindelwald.

Wrap-up

Honestly, ₩200,000 a night in Switzerland feels like a steal once you see what you’re getting.
Clean room, free cake and drinks at happy hour, sauna every night — I really had no complaints.
The staff were kind and everything ran smoothly throughout the stay.
If you’re heading to Grindelwald, the Eiger Selfness Hotel is an easy recommendation.

Thanks for reading.
