A 3-night stay at the Hilton Sydney. Booked via the Hilton official app in February 2025. Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, the hotel offered excellent access to virtually everything.

Booking and Price

Hilton app booking confirmation showing Honors Advanced Purchase rate with breakfast for Hilton Sydney

I booked through the Hilton official app using the Honors Advanced Purchase rate — a breakfast-inclusive package at AUD 1,277 for three nights, or roughly AUD 425 per night.

For overseas accommodation, I almost always book directly through official hotel websites or apps, which are generally cheaper than third-party platforms like Agoda or Booking.com. After signing up for a Hilton Honors account, app bookings come with an additional discount — definitely worth booking through the app if you’re not already a member.

Location and Accessibility

I traveled directly from the airport to the hotel by train, transferring at Central Station and alighting at St James, then walking the rest of the way. If you’re carrying heavy luggage, a taxi from the station is probably the better call.

The hotel sits right in the middle of Sydney’s CBD, immediately next to the Queen Victoria Building. A tram stop is directly outside the lobby entrance, making public transport access about as good as it gets. The surrounding area is packed with shopping, restaurants, and cafes, all within easy walking distance.

The lobby: just inside the main entrance is a bar serving coffee, drinks, and food. The front desk is a short walk further in.

The lobby is narrow and elongated. Seating is available, and a side exit connects to the parking garage.

Check-In

Our original room was right next to the lift — I anticipated noise and asked to be moved. The staff immediately obliged and actually upgraded us to a higher floor with a better view, which was a pleasant surprise.

Hilton Sydney room key cards issued at check-in

Two key cards were issued. A digital key via the Hilton app is also available as an alternative.

The TV displayed a personalised welcome message on arrival. That was about the extent of our TV use.

Through the entrance: bathroom and minibar fridge to the right, then two chairs and the beds further in. The room felt more upscale than expected — a welcome surprise.

One oddity: no bottled water. Instead, there was a dedicated drinking water tap next to the hand basin in the bathroom. Apparently tap water quality in Australia is high enough to drink straight — interesting.

Hilton Sydney room view overlooking Sydney Town Hall

The view directly overlooked the Sydney Town Hall — a genuinely lovely outlook. On clear days, you could even spot aircraft descending into Sydney International Airport.

Hilton Sydney twin beds with premium white bedding

True to Hilton standards, the bedding was exceptional — I was out cold the moment my head touched the pillow, every night for three nights. Amenities like nail clippers and lip balm are available on request, though I forgot to ask.

Overall, an excellent room.

Facilities

The hotel includes a conference centre, gym, sauna, and swimming pool. I didn’t use them during the stay, but had a quick look around.

Hilton Sydney gym with extensive equipment and double-height ceiling

The gym was the largest I’ve seen in a hotel — extensive equipment and a double-height layout, which was impressive.

Hilton Sydney indoor swimming pool and sauna area

The pool and sauna share a space and looked a little dated, which may explain why the area was empty during my visit.

Breakfast

The moment I’d been waiting for. The restaurant was busy all three mornings regardless of when I went — evidently well-frequented by guests.

Floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining room look directly onto the Queen Victoria Building — breakfast with a view of one of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks.

Hilton Sydney breakfast spread including eggs made to order and rotating fruit selection

The menu didn’t change dramatically over the three days, though the fruit selection rotated daily. Eggs and omelettes were made to order — with a different chef each morning, the omelettes varied in style, ranging from perfectly cooked to slightly runny (on one occasion). Various toppings and vegetables could be added on request.

The food overall was genuinely good — not a huge number of options, but everything was fresh and well-seasoned.

Hilton Sydney breakfast dining room atmosphere with cereal, juice, and coffee machines

The dining room atmosphere made me want to come back. Cereals, milk, juice varieties, and two coffee machines were all available. I usually go back for three plates at breakfast; watching other guests walk out after a single plate with just a coffee is always mildly baffling.

Summary

Pros:

  • Excellent location (central CBD)
  • Stunning city views, great for taking in the skyline
  • Breakfast — atmosphere and quality both outstanding
  • Room has a refined, upscale feel

Cons:

  • Price is on the higher end (particularly for breakfast inclusion)
  • Lobby is narrow and lacks the grand, open feel of some comparable hotels
  • Ordered kimchi fried rice from room service — disappointing
